Piranha Salad

 photo 799px-2010-0117-Peru-piranha_zps31a86c51.jpg
Awesome salad

Fancy a healthier meal to work off all that Christmas goose? (Please don't say you had turkey...yuck!) Then why not go for another METAL MEAL OF THE MOTORHEAD GODS and rustle up a PIRANHA SALAD?Yeah you read it right, piranha. Okay you might need a trip to the Amazon but look at it! I'm sure it would be worth it *Devil Horns* Simply whack a few Pygocentrus nattereri (Ooh fancy!) under a grill for a few light sessions, garnish and serve with lettuce, tomato and other veggie type shite. Apparently its a very popular dish in the jungles and these folk have lived unmolested by technology for centuries so how wrong can it be? By the holy garters of Lita Ford, I would certainly get that bad boy down my ever hungry gullet. Admit it! It looks delicious.

Comfort Food

 photo BTjuUi4CEAAfqBI370x278_zps17bb499f.jpg
Pass the Parsley

Apologies for the bad photograph but that there is the ultimate comfort food: fish, mashed potatoes and parsley sauce (sadly I forgot the peas.) Most folk nowadays only remember parsley sauce from school dinners as a lad/ladess which is a crying shame because this sauce is seriously LUSH, and easy to make (there are hundreds of recipes online.) Its great with baked ham too, I remember my late mother making it often back in the day. I urge anyone reading this outside of Britain to make some parsley sauce, you will thank me I guarantee.
These days im fairly addicted to hot sauces but will always go back to the parsley when I feel the need (like I did today.) In fact, that has me thinking now: hot parsley sauce! Eureka! I haven't seen anyone make that. I just might suggest it to a hot sauce creator I know.

Fugu As Fug

Japanese delicacy, the fugu fish (a type of blowfish) is one of the most metal dishes EVER. The fish is two hundred times more poisonous than cyanide and one small mistake during preparation can kill the hungry diner (23 people have died since 2000 from eating it.) So bad ass is a plateful of this, chefs need to be members of a guild and have a special licence from the Japanese government in order to be able to make and serve it. Its not cheap either and costs anything upward of £75 in Tokyo's swankier restaurants.
Fugu fish poisoning has been described as "rapid and violent", beginning with a numbness around the mouth until paralysis arrives as a foreword to blessed death. Oh and you will remain conscious until the reaper calls. There is no antidote. Despite all this, Fugu eating is extremely popular with Japanese diners and tourists alike. Like I said, bad ass.

Heres a guy eating Fugu. His mouth goes numb but he'll be fine (he hopes.)

Tenby's Greatest Chippy

Photobucket
Greatness awaits beyond this doorway

Your dear mosher went down to Tenby yesterday and not only was the sun shining like a MoFo, the fish was fresh, the chips crispy and the Cola cold! I know I have mentioned Park Road chippy before but it does such fantastic fish & chips that I am compelled (yes really) to mention them again. Any lover of this classic British dish simply must visit this chip shop and taste the cod encased in golden batter. Its mouth watering!

Seriously good fish & chips

Sprats

Apologies for the misty camera, its a hassle of filming while cooking. But here is your moshy host cooking fresh sprats. Think sardines and you won't be too far off. These are a lovely fish and as you can see in the video, they are quick and easy to cook. All you need is flour, salt & pepper and off you go.

The Contented Sole

Photobucket
Or the Contented belly

I thought I would add a new 'feature' on this site and mention some of the wonderful Fish & Chip shops we have here in Wales. And lets be honest, no matter how much fun cooking can be, there are times when you just want to relax and let someone else sweat over fryer for a change.
So first up is The Contented Sole which can be found on Priory street in Carmarthen. Very good chippy which also has a few tables to eat in if the weathers doing its usual cloudy, miserable routine. (Although seating has been cut again recently).
I can heartily recommend the rissoles and pies which are both superb but a big mention must go to the cod & chips. One word: delicious! Golden, crispy batter that reveals white, melt-in-your-mouth flakes of fresh fish, accompanied by chips as they should be made in chip shops. Some places turn out soggy, sorry looking potato chunks that swim in grease but The Contented Sole does not. Theirs are pretty perfect in fact and I challenge anyone to come away disappointed.

Fish Pie and Chips

Photobucket
At the captain's table

I never imagined mixing fish and cheese would work. Ive thrown a lot of weird and wonderful foods together in experiments (one only has to read this blog for evidence of this) but I would never have dreamedup the fish pie had it been left up to me.
Frozen fish company Young's make a great one, called the Admiral's Pie which as it says on the box is Alaska Pollock fillets with mashed potato, butter sauce and cheddar cheese. Nuke it for 10 minutes in the microwave and your ready to tuck in! I always add chips because its not a particularly filling meal if served on its own. Some however might be put off by this as being too 'potatoey'. (Not a word? It should be!)

Tenby's Fab Fish & Chip Shop

Watch the above video to see how Fish & Chips should look like. In Wales? Want to try this meal? Then head on over to Park road in Tenby and you'll find this fantastic Chippy opposite the blue gift shop with giant, inflatable pool toys hanging over its front. (Trust me you can't miss it)!
Now you may be tempted with the other delicious things on offer like their pies or awesome rissoles, but do stick with the cod & chips because Tenby is a seaside town where boats with super fresh fish arrive in the harbour daily so you can be sure of great tasting fish. (You could always add a rissole to your order and take it home for a rissole sandwich).
You can choose to eat in or out and if you decide to eat inside the tables are placed a reasonable distance apart so you don't go banging into peoples elbows like you do in some places I could mention. Good prices too and they have a licence to sell alcohol so major plus on that score.

Music to eat to ~ nothing. If eating out, take your parcel of Fish & Chips to the Esplanade overlooking the sea front and enjoy to the sound of waves crashing below. Watch out for seagulls! Mind you Caldy the Seagull, Twitter's newest hero and official Pembrokeshire spokesbird, is quite friendly.
